Water aerobics started up again for me last night. I love water and love getting exercise in water. I don't understand why it attracts such an older crowd, at least in my continuing ed class -- I'm by far the youngest in the class, at 39. I think most of the women are in their 60's and 70's. Oh well. I find them to be an inspiration. I want to be splashing around & laughing when I'm 70 too!
Some of them know each other well; I guess from taking this class for years and through various senior activities in our town. There was a lot of talk of an ice-skating outing, where one of the women bruised herself helping another who was falling. I started chatting with one of the skating women, and learned where and when they go. I've never mastered ice-skating, and I was impressed that this woman goes twice a week. She said it's all "old fogeys" who go there. She mentioned an 83-year old man who's a speed skater, who skates there too. OK, I feel like quite a wimp. 83 years old, and speed skating!?
The next time I have trouble getting up and out to exercise, I think I'll remember that there's an old man who goes speed skating at least twice a week. If I want to be a healthy old fogey, I'd better start now!
