Artiste
When did this happen?
We've moved beyond plain old circles to actual recognizable art.
This is Daddy. And yes, he wears glasses.
Then there was the family portrait. By the soon-to-be 3-year-old.
I give him another couple of months before his artistic abilities
surpass his mother's -- which are frozen at the level of a
typical 5-year old.
Looking at these makes me just plain giddy!

Oh my goodness! Aren't they fabulous??? He is very talented Marie. It's a pity he did them on that etch-a-sketch thingy and not actual paper. If only those things had a button on them that automatically printed what was drawn on it...

That's why we had to take pictures!! ;-)

It's so exciting to see the beginning of our kids' artistic abilities! My son appears to have taken after this parent and has no discernible interest in drawing -- he slaps a circle on the page, scribbles in some eyes and mouth and hair and calls it a person.

Hey, those are pretty good! I have two artistically challenged children, and I swear that they wouldn't have been able to do a drawing like that until they were 6!
At school, they used to do a self portrait at the beginning of the year and one at the end of the year, and with my eldest son you couldn't tell the difference.
In fact, you couldn't tell the difference between the one he did at the beginning of kindergarten and the one he did at the end of THIRD GRADE!!

That is amazing. They learn so quickly! Was there a picture of Mommy too?

Suzanne,
It is! I have to laugh every time my son asks me to draw something. I'm hoping he takes after his grandfathers -- both had artistic abilities in their day.
Anita,
That is very funny!! Clearly they excel in other areas... (like presidential trivia and music, right?) I love the idea of a self-portrait at the beginning & end of the year.
Sarcasmom,
Yes, there was. It looked just like the one of Daddy. Maybe he'll put some hair on me next time!
Barbara,
Yep! And he was very proud of these...

I love these drawings. So much that I have way too much paper laying around all over in totes and boxes, and I failed to write down who drew what but I don't have the heart to throw them away. How cool he drew the glasses!

That's talent! Up until last year, Elle still drew bubbles with sticks for people.

They grow so fast that I wish we could slow the process down just a little bit. Then I read inspirational entries like yours and I realize that you always manage to capture the magic of the moment for us to enjoy again and again.
It's as good as it gets until the whole freezing time thing comes true.
