So you're not ready for kindergarten --you're only 2-years & 3 months old. You are, in fact, an adorable little sponge and the source of so much joy in our home.
It's pretty much a given that you'll repeat anything and everything we say now.
Daddy: This diaper's an atrocity!
Little guy: trocity!
-----------
Mommy: How's your food? Is it good stuff?
Little guy: Good stuff!
And you'll repeat things even when we don't want you to.
The hand holding a cup of coffee is jarred when you interfere with its placement on the counter. Suddenly there's coffee (lukewarm - Thank God!) all over the counter, floor, appliances, and people.
Adult: F*CK!!! (loud and with conviction)
Little boy: F*CK! F*CK! F*CK! (with just as much conviction)
You have little things that you say all the time, too.
Wow! That's neat!!!
What's that?
Where's Daddy? / Mommy? / Green (balloon)? / anything that's not directly in front of you...
No doubt the ever popular "Whys" will follow soon.
You want to be outside nearly every waking moment. Even at 6 a.m., you'll ask for "sneakers on" or "Crocs on" letting us know you want your shoes so you can go outside. You've brought me my sneakers too, with a request for "outside" or "go for walk."
We even have regular little conversations now, reminding me that you're not a baby anymore.
Mommy: I think I'll bring a snack with us in the car. Sound good?
Little boy: Sounds good!
-----------------------------------
I sit on the living room floor, flipping through a cookbook. You crouch down beside me & put your smiling face next to mine, "Hey, Whatchudoin' Mommy?"
You play with your cars, trucks, and trains every day. They talk to each other and to your other toys. You chatter constantly, and you're always so expressive, whether it's some form of Japanese, Italian, or English you're spouting. I love to sit quietly, watching and listening, but
when you spot me watching, you find a role for me. Usually you give me the flat wooden Sir Toppham Hatt figure, "Toppa Hat" or "Hat" as you say. In my Sir Toppham Hatt voice, I offer commentary on what's going on in the play scene that day.
Speaking of "Hatt," his usual compliment for Thomas the Tank Engine or the others is "Well done!" So, naturally, when I finally got you out of our pain-in-the-butt backyard swing with its stubborn latch, you proclaimed "Well done!" You make me smile inside and out.
The other day at the playground, we saw a train off in the distance, and you were thrilled. But you kept asking, "Where's Thomas?" even after I explained that he was on Sodor, and wasn't here that day.
You amaze us with your ability to string words together. It's getting more and more common for you to put 3 or 4 words together. You've told me to "have fun swimming" when I'm on my way out the door to my class at the pool, and you've asked "Where's the other car?" when playing with your growing collection of small vehicles.
I love your singing too. You sing the ABC song, Happy Birthday, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (which you call Krinkle Krinkle), Row Row Row Your Boat and others. You sing along when Daddy and I sing you lullabies too, and that just melts our already squishy hearts.
You've become a fast runner, usually laughing and flailing your arms around as you go. You haven't quite gotten the hang of jumping yet, but boy do you try! You do a full body movement that involves all components of the jump, except for the actual liftoff. Once you get it down, you'll be a wonderful jumper -- I can just tell!
You play with the neighbor kids, including our 5-year old next door neighbor. You like to do whatever he's doing, and one of us is always closeby making sure it's not something that will cause injury.
You're a rough and tumble sweetheart of a boy, for sure, and you usually just roll with it; whatever it is. As long as there are no loud parades going by!

Amazing aren't they? And too darn cute. As you know Monet has been walking around saying 'Bugger, bugger' thanks (not!) to me! Uh-oh. Yes, we have to be more careful with our words don't we?
Your little one sounds so smart. I can't wait to meet him one day!? *giggle giggle*
I love the way our little ones talk (ie Kwinkle kwinkle). And the way they are trying to string more than two words together.

awww... quite the smart little sponge you have there. When I was little, and the "sh*t" word slipped out of my mom's or dad's mouth one too many times, they switched to "sugar!", but said it as if it was a bad word. That way, whenever I said "sugar" I thought I was swearing. Good times. ;)

Melody,
So when are you coming to the states??!
Uisce,
Except for sleep!
Kristi,
That is cute. I find myself saying "shoot" a lot! Apparently I say "oh my goodness" quite a bit too, because I've been hearing that echoed back lately...
Chris,
Thanks for commenting! You're Jody & Jen's Mom, right? That is very sweet about Ethan.
Bou,
Thanks! I could have gone on and on and on. But who would have read all that??
Raehan,
I keep thinking of things I didn't include! Like how he's helping me unload the dishwasher now. He takes one mug at a time and says "Heavy!" as he passes it to me. It's so cute when he's being a little helper!
