This year we have 2 raised beds. One with garlic and tomatoes, and one with chives, basil, and strawberries. I planted the garlic in the fall, and it's doing great! It'll be ready to harvest in just a few weeks. We use a ton of garlic at our house! I planted 2 beefsteak tomato plants and 3 cherry tomatoes. In about 2 months we'll have tomatoes coming out our ears! So, stop by in late August for a BLT... Not featured in these photos are my cucumber plants; they're planted directly in the ground, also along the fence.

I'm jealous Marie!!! Your raised garden beds look terrific, and yes, count me in for a BLT in August. Mmmm. We too, go through a lot of garlic in this house too. Is there anything better than fresh garlic aromas adourning the kitchen? Me thinks not.
Having a garden like this, to grow my own fresh produce is one of our main reasons on saving (SAVING, SAVING, SAVING, URGH!!!) Can't wait till we have a place we can call our own. Hopefully this all happens in the months to follow.

You'll have a place of your own soon, Melody! You'll be able to grow all sorts of cool tropical things in Cairns, huh? It is fun to have a little yard to do with as you please.

Okay, I'm feeling very inadequate right now! I can barely keep my peace plant alive! ;)
What I wouldn't give to grow my own garlic...

You wouldn't believe how easy it is Lindsay! You stick cloves in the ground in the fall, cover them with straw/leaves/mulch, and then in the spring they come up. VERY easy! You won't feel inadequate when you see how I grow lots of weeds with my tomatoes!! And with indoor plants? Forget it. My husband has dubbed me The Terminator.
