I suppose it's natural to wonder what will become your child's passions and interests as he grows up. My husband and I are certain that we'll have another nerd in our house -- that's pretty much a given with two nerdy parents. Will he have his father's engineering and fix-it abilities? Mom's interest in math? His parents' love of writing? Something else?
We were talking over breakfast this morning, while our little boy played with his trains and cars at the table. My hubby wonders if our son will become a car guy, like his Dad. I will be surprised if that's not the case. The things that get the most play around here have wheels - toy trains, cars, trucks, etc.
A couple nights this week, I've snuck into our little guy's room to take two big metal cars out of his bed after he's gone to sleep. They're Volkswagon Beetles which once sat on a shelf for display; they were Daddy's toys, but no longer...
This morning I picked up a couple of plastic trucks ("crucks") at garage sales (I'm a sucker for them, I'll admit it -- because they're such a HUGE hit here). The trucks went with us to the library, sat on the floor beneath the lunch table, came to my lap for stories, and then went into the crib at nap time. (You can only see one in the photo, but I think he's hugging the other one in his blankets.)
I'll be very surprised if he's not into cars when he grows up! We're going to need a much bigger driveway some day...

Awww... What a cutie pie!
I'm sitting here looking at your blog this morning with Monet peering over my shoulder. She saw the piccie of your little man asleep. Apparently now I am being told to be quiet. 'Shhhh' is the sound being made over my shoulder!
Yes, I think that our children will pick up some of our interests. That is a good thing right? It's not half bad seeing your child wanting to hear U2 and to dance to them, or to play with Barbie and other dolls. Or cuddle your favourite teddies.

There are many things in between his trucks now and the real versions. There are remote comtrol vehicles, Hot Wheels and Match Box, four wheelers, and mini-bikes. The bulk of my son's allowance still goes towards trains. Other interests have come and gone, trains stay constant.

I love that pic! I'm totally feelin' ya. We're big into crucks and cars here too.

First off, what a great picture!
Nick always loved cars. He had like 2 or 3 milk crates FULL of matchboxes when he was little. Then it was fire trucks for a couple of years.
Now he collects NASCAR diecasts. The ones from WalMart I can deal with...but he's got a bunch from Kevin Harvick online and this store in the mall...Christmas and birthday gifts...those things are like 70 bucks EACH!
I hope your lil' guy sticks with dump trucks for a while. :)

LOL at the picture! Yes, I think he'll be into cars. I can't believe how big he's getting.

Seriously, that is adorable!! It's much better than, say HUMPING trucks, which is what my daughter would do. (Except it's monkey because that's her love.) I love how they have their own personality and their own "thang."
seriously, I love this picture.

Brenna is well on her way to being a full fledged geek. But a cute one. She went to bed the other night hugging an empty 2 liter soda bottle. If it hadn't been dark I so would have taken her picture!
