The Pod People
Alright. I've seen the light on the whole iPod/MP3 player thing. And now, I NEED one.
After spending the weekend with my teenaged niece, I have experienced the coolness & benefits of digital music, firsthand. I mean, I understood it in theory before, but now that I've used an iPod (attached to incredible speakers, subwoofer, etc.), I'm completely sold. Boy, do I feel like I'm living in the stone ages flipping CDs in & out of the player.
Looks like Apple isn't making the Minis any more, and is selling the Nanos now as the mid-range iPods. And they're not cheap, of course. The 4GB Mini holding 1000 songs seems just right to me. I'll be scouring eBay for a deal.
Do you have an MP3 player? What do you have? What do you recommend?

On a related note...
Have I mentioned that my lawn-obsessed neighbor has an iPod now? And that she's always out there wearing her white earbuds, belting it out very badly at the top of her lungs? As in, my windows are closed right now, but I can hear her wailing away loud and clear. It's hysterical.
I'm so tempted to videotape her. And YouTube it.
That would be rude, wouldn't it?

I have the Shuffle, the bare-bones iPod, and I love it. It definitely isn't as flashy or pretty as the Nano, and it doesn't have a display screen. But it was only $89.00.
And yes, tape your neighbor, and then call that GMA producer and tell him he needs to make tracks to your house, post haste!

I have yet to convert. Then again I only listen to music rarely, and then on my computer or in the car.

Oh man do I love my ipod and I really didn't fully get it (the whole concept) until I got one from my husband last summer. And then it was like an epiphany. "You mean we can get all those CDs stored up and out of sight."
It's worth every penny to get a good one. Best purchase in a while.

You mean there was life before my iPod? I've had my iPod since Christmas and I live with it. I LIVE with it. I got the video one so I can let Lauren watch Elmo, should the need arise and really, that's just sad. But MOSTLY I got it as a backup for my Mac. I put my work documents on it so I don't worry about losing them.
But ya. I LUFF it.

Well to start with I recommend anything but IPOD, and if you really want to know drop me a line and I'll tell you why.
Give a look to the people that are suing IPOD for patent infringement. Creative Labs.

No ipod yet. It would be bad to do it, but very funny!

You know I have one and yes, you know how much I love it.
I love the fact that I could store all those cds out of sight and I partically love the fact that I can buy my music on the internet via iTunes.
I was fortunate enough to get one a couple of years ago (X-Mas 2004) from my parents so I never had to fork out the big bucks for the 40G iPod.
Do yourself a favour and get your hands on one.

And YES - tape your neighbor! That is hysterical!

I LOVE my IPod Mini and think the bucks for the nano would be worth your while. I use mine for exercise, to play music in the kitchen, and through my car stereo. Hope you find a deal soon!

No iPod here, but my son couldn't live without his. He has the regular (pre-video) version, and has about, 5000 songs on it. Which means I can stay in the 20th century and listen to his CDs, which are now stacked in his room.

I won't get an iPod just on principle. But I do have a digital music player that I use sometimes when I run. Otherwise, it's the radio or CDs for me. I like to live old-school.
I don't think that would be rude. Come on! We need a little excitement. Public domain if she's singing out in the yard!

Rude begets rude, in other words, she deserves it.

Hey M,
I went all out and got the 60G IPod. Love it. (Holds about 15,ooo songs.) The 30G probably would have done fine. I'm not sure I would have been as happy with a smaller one. Holds ALL of my music collection, making it VERY tempting to trade all my cds in for . . . more cds that I can import to ITunes.
You will love whichever one you get.
