Did you ever wonder?

WndrIs nothing sacred?

I just heard about this on the radio. Healthy options. From the Wonder bread people.

I was raised on Wonder bread. As a young child, my lunch consisted of grape jelly on Wonder bread, with a little bag of Fritos. And now they're introducing a nutritious line of Wonder bread? Since when is Wonder bread supposed to be nutritious?!

And no, I don't still eat Wonder bread. I eat healthy food now.

But isn't there a law or something to protect Wonder bread? Isn't it supposed to stick to the roof of your mouth and be pasty white?

I had the cheap knock-off store brand bread, but it was basically the same thing...P B & J on it...and Fritos, too! (and an apple..mom insisted.) We also used to take a jelly jar and cut out circles of the white bread and play "priest" with our own hosts. I know, it was pretty sacreligious, but what did we know!?

Wonder Bread needs to be protected, just like buildings on the national register! Our National Bread!!

Exactly! Our National Bread!!! Funny that you had Fritos too, Nat... My sister and I used to play communion with those Necco wafer candies. My mother would get SO mad at us!

Hee-Hee. All I remember is Italian bread from Savastano's from my childhood, but yeah, I agree. But I also think it's a good thing, since so many kids are overweight now (as compared to when we were young). Plus, it's apparently supposed to taste and feel exactly the same as the white stuff!

My mother never let me eat stuff like Wonder Bread and Fritos. So, I became a chocoholic as revenge. But I'll admit that I don't feel too concerned about the changes to Wonder Bread. Didn't eat it then. Don't eat it now.

My Mom always made me eat wheat bread. So, going to a friend's homes where wonder bread was served was always a big treat!

What is funny is that same friend looked forward to the wheat bread at our house. I never could figure that out.

To this day though, I now prefer wheat bread, thankfully.

Wonder did this a few years ago (remember WonderKids bread?) but it didn't take off, mostly because the bread was WAY expensive.

It looked and tasted like regular wonder bread, though.

Apparently nothing is sacred. Wealways had Wonder bread. You could mush it up into little balls and they would stick to themselvves.

Kristi,
Yeah, now they can play video games with whole grain Wonder bread in their hands!

Anita,
You were lucky. I grew up on Wonder bread and Kool Aid. And plenty of baked goods. My son eats whole wheat everything, and lots of fruits and veges!

Holly,
That's funny. I remember my best friend having other choices for bread at her house. I always thought that was cool.

CTG,
It sounds vaguely familiar. Personally, I don't care to ever taste it again!

Sarcasmom,
Exactly! That's the way Wonder bread should be... and with little to no nutritional value. Tradition is tradition! Soon they'll call it Classic Wonder...

As a child, I spurned all but the fluffiest of white breads. Now, thank goodness, I have become a whole-wheat convert. White bread is just way too soft for me now.

LOL at "Classic Wonder." I can't stand the stuff, though I ate white bread as a little kid. I forget when my family went to wheat bread--I think the white stuff is a repressed memory.

I like the simple layout of your blog.
Are you going to answer the questions?

I am a fellow Olympian...

Hi Carol! Thanks for visiting... Yep, I'm working on answering the questions. It'll be a little here, a little there. I'm going to post another response today... Good luck in the Olympics!

You should be able to turn it into little cubes and play football with it. And it should be a doorstop.

Hmm, there should be a list of things to do with Wonder Bread (besides consumption).
