Some years I look back on the year and think of all that I've accomplished. The year I bought a house. The year I got married. The year I had my son.
2005? Pretty much maintained status quo. And that's just fine with me.
The year has flown by, and I realize now that I have a small child, I look at time through his amazing growth.
Last year at this time, my little guy was just beginning to crawl. In our 2004 Christmas pictures, he's reaching for branches of the tree from laying and sitting positions. He had no teeth at this time last year. He didn't talk either.
Now? He runs. He climbs. He has a mouth full of teeth and is working on his 2-year molars. It's actually mind-boggling to me that he got an entire mouth full of teeth in a year's time. He chatters up a storm. Lately, he chuckles to himself and says "Funny!" about whatever it is he's chuckling about. I'm glad he sees humor in things. He plays with his little trains all the time -- cars too. We have gotten good at changing his clothes with a train or car clenched in his hand. The other day, he uttered Thomas (as in "Thomas the tank engine") for the first time: "ToeMEESE." Bestill my heart! He came up behind me yesterday & put his arms around my legs, saying "huggie!"
So, if 2006 is another year of "status quo" for me, that will be just fine. I know it will be anything but that for my little boy, who will turn 2 in March and will continue to grow and develop like crazy.
2005 was the year of the big 4-0 for me. It doesn't seem possible. I guess having a toddler makes me feel like I can't be that old!
Today I count my blessings -- among them: my own health, a healthy & loving family, good friends, and the many new friendships I've made through blogging. Thanks for coming here to read my posts, and for commenting. I really appreciate the connections I've made here on this great big blogosphere.
We'll be settling in with Thai takeout for dinner tonight, along with a movie and pumpkin pie to celebrate my mother-in-law's upcoming birthday.
Have a wonderful evening, and Happy New Year to you and yours!

Wow-almost two years old. It doesn't seem possible. Enjoy your night in (that's what we're doing too), and Happy New Year!

I know EXACTLY what you mean Marie. Monet turns 16 months next week and she practically has a mouth full of teeth too! And talk? Boy can she talk. Besides her current favourite word (which is Ga. Ga this, Ga that!), today she pointed to Lyndon and said 'My dad'. 'Yes' we said. It was very funny. She was saying it so proudly, not questioning.
I hope 2006 holds many special moments for my little family and I think having a baby/toddler does this. I hope you have a wonderful 2006 with your little fellow and your husband too. *smile*

Happy New Year, Marie. It has been a pleasure getting to know you. Now, I'm not really sure about the Thai food and the pumpkin pie. Didn't know they really went together. LOL.

Marie - I hope for the same status quo for your 2006. Raising a child is a long process, each year well spent. Happy New year!

Happy New Year. I'm 42 this year. And can relate to small children and age. ;-)
