After a lot of hard work, sweat, and elbow grease -- not mine, truthfully -- we now have a refurbished swingset in our back yard. A family on our street passed it on to us, since their children have outgrown it, and our little guy is growing like crazy and getting more steady each day on his own two little feet.
My hubby sanded, repaired, and painted the set, and it really looks quite nice now. It's permanently installed in our little yard, as of a few days ago. Over the weekend, our little boy christened the baby swing and slide. He clearly LOVES it.
<mini rant>As we figured, the neighbor's dog gets anxious when we come out to play. I think I would too if I were chained up in the corner 90% of the time. Poor thing. I'm not a big animal person, but I can recognize what appears to be cruelty to animals. Why do people have dogs if they're going to chain them up all day & evening, every day? I wonder, what's the point? They very rarely play with the dog either. Yesterday, the dog's owner told my hubby across the chain-link fence that the dog barks because he gets jealous -- jealous when someone else is getting attention. Imagine that! A dog that would like some attention. How needy!</mini rant>
At any rate, looks like we may be putting up a better fence for some privacy. Or maybe it'll dawn on his owners that others live in this neighborhood too. Right. Oh, and this dog and I have met before. Yep, fancy that! Poor thing.

That's awful about your neighbor's dog. If you seriously think it's being neglected, you might want to consider calling the humane society's cruelty helpline. It's anonymous, of course. And you're right-if you don't want to be a responsible pet owner (and it is a serious responsibility to properly care for another living being) then don't own a pet. It's that simple.

Shish,
It's probably borderline. It's mean, at least, I think. It's a shady spot, and they do keep water out there for him. He has a little shelter (very tiny, but he goes in it). We actually have placed a call on these neighbors before - for the treatment of their previous dog.

I'm so sorry you live near people like that. It's so difficult. on another note - Glad you got your swing done!

I'm with Shish. I would call the humane society as well. Or... go over and take the dog while the owners are gone. And take it to the humane society as "lost". Just be sure to make it look like the chain broke!

Hope the little one's having a blast on his new swingset. Sorry about the neighbor's dog. At least he's chained--we had neighbors who were less than conscientious about keeping their German Shepherd confined.
